When a routine call turned into something very much not routine, West Columbia police officer Will Norris was ready for the challenge. In November 2014, PFC Norris was working a vandalism case when a cab driver flagged him down and told him there was a man preparing to jump off of the Gervais Street bridge. PFC Norris responded to the bridge and tried to talk with the man. Moments later, the man attempted to leap from the bridge, but PFC Norris caught him by his clothes, holding on to the dangling man until help arrived in the form of an anonymous good samaritan. PFC Norris's quick response and brave actions saved the life of the man that day, and PFC Norris was awarded the Medal of Valor.
