Captain Michael J. Donoghue (Ret) commanded the Administrative Division, Investigations Division, and Patrol Divisions of the Summerville Police Department. Captain Donoghue joined the Summerville Police Department in 1993 as a patrolman after serving eight years with the City of North Charleston Police. He has held numerous positions with the town, including detective, patrol supervisor, professional standards officer, detective division commander, investigations commander, and uniform division commander. Throughout his career, Captain Donoghue was a law enforcement instructor certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He held advanced certifications in the areas of firearms and emergency vehicle operations. Captain Donoghue has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Charleston Southern University and a Master's Degree in Political Science from The Citadel. While at Charleston Southern University he was named to "Who's Who of American College Students" and elected a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Captain Donoghue has been an adjunct professor of criminal justice on the faculties of Trident Technical College and Park University.
